How I’ve Helped
My parents owned and operated Hamilton Island Weddings in the Whitsundays for over 20 years. I was charged with the responsibility of Managing Director at a very young age when my parents retired and returned to Noosa. The pressure was on me to make the business succeed, in order to fund their retirement and my future.
MY BUSINESS CHALLENGES
I was faced with an old-school business setup, lots of paper and labour-intensive tasks, handwritten booking processes, a general lack of standard procedures and a team of wonderfully loyal staff who were, however, extremely wary of change. I had my work cut out for me.
MY SKILLS
I was fortunate to possess a deep and natural understanding of technology, and an innate ability to see how different technologies could cost-effectively solve our business issues.
These skills became the cornerstone of Hamilton Island Weddings continued success.
The business improvements I put in place helped us to grow year on year, reduce our fixed costs, dramatically increase client satisfaction, and weather many storms. We lived through several cyclones, the GFC, varying market trends and an abundance of new competitors joining our already saturated wedding market.
In 2017 the business returned to the ownership of Hamilton Island Enterprises. The systems, processes and business practices I put in place during my tenure as Managing Director, provided my family with valuable intellectual property which we were able to sell to the new owners.
